The New and Improved FaceBook

So as everyone has been noticing the last few days Facebook has been making a lot of new changes. At first I wasn’t sure if I was liking what I was seeing, especially the side ticker, which updates itself continuously, I found it annoying at first, but as everything new- you get used to it. But another awesome feature- that not everyone is seeing quite yet is the new layout change. The banner you see on my profile is now called a “cover”  on your facebook profile,  you can upload a photo of your choice, or use an existing photo from your facebook. It makes your profile more personable. I personally love it because I love the ability to be able to customize my profile. It’s now letting me feature my blog url to stand out, so that when everyone comes to my page it’s the first thing they see.

The facebook “timeline” is a new feature as well.  You can go back all the way to your first status you’ve ever posted and everywhere in between. It’s like a virtual scrapbook. It’s pretty awesome actually. You tend to forget things, you’ve said, certain people you’ve talked to, but now you can have fun reading and looking at things from the past at a convenience. You can also add things in between time periods, key events, images, and similar. You can essentially compile a visual diary. You can augment your Timeline by using apps which track books you’ve read, movies you’ve watched, music you’ve listened to, and more. You can also highlight specific events or posts — which are being referred to as “Stories” — and feature them (or perhaps even hide them) in order to create what you feel is the best representation of your life.

Another new feature is the ticker. The Ticker works like a secondary news feed in the top right corner of the Home page and is meant to be a “lightweight stream of everything that’s going on around you.”

The news feed is now present so people don’t have to worry about clogging friend’s timelines with monotonous information.

They’ve also changed the display of how pictures you upload show up. I love how they group the pictures into a collage almost. I think it looks a lot nicer.  Now, the photos you share on Facebook are bigger (720 pixels to 960 pixels) and load twice as fast, giving you quicker access to more detailed images.

Overall, I think facebook is making some better improvements. It will take time for everyone to get used to it at first. But everything changes. :)

To get the new facebook profile before anyone else, just watch this youtube video and follow the steps. It’s easy! :)
